City of LakesideOffice of the Mayor

Dear CivicGuard,

The mayor's office was surprised to find the mayor's lunch habits featured on your public website under the heading 'Executive wellness.'

The mayor welcomes transparency in how city vehicles are used. He does not welcome a running count of his visits to a local business, a reference to a private medical concern, or a joke about a side salad. These are not accountability issues. They are personal ones.

We ask that the case study be taken down and that restaurant stops be excluded from the executive vehicle's reports going forward. The mayor continues to support the program and asks that his movements remain confidential.

Regards,

Marjorie DunnMarjorie Dunn

CivicGuard HoldingsOfficial Wellbeing Desk · Duty of Care

Dear Ms. Dunn,

Thank you for writing, and please tell the mayor we're sorry if the case study made him feel singled out. That's never the goal. The goal is that everybody feels cared about.

We can't take the case study down, because the independent board decides what goes in the public record. But we've done something we think is better. We sat down with the municipal wellness coordinator and worked out a more supportive approach to the mayor's lunches.

As of last week, the reader at the drive-thru lane on Route 9 is connected to a small message sign by the menu board. When the executive vehicle pulls in, the sign says, 'Hi Mayor. Side salad?' It's friendly and it's low pressure. It's also just for him, since no other plate triggers it.

As for keeping his movements confidential, we've heard this from the mayor a few times now and we've noted it each time.

Warmly,

Dana WhitcombDana Whitcomb
